12:39 pm - Next Italian film I'm watching
|
It's called "Come Dio comanda" (As God commands) and it's inspired by Ammaniti's novel. Ammaniti is an author of very high-quality puplp stories, and very much influenced by Stephen King (as they keep telling me: I must confess I haven't read one single King novel, apart from an adaptation of Misery for beginner English learners :D).
His stories are usually set in the province and focus on horrible things happening to completely normal people... in this case the plot revolves around the symbiotic relation between a father and his son. The father teaches his son hateful things like racism and never trusting others, and they kind of live in an isolated context with only one friend - a very damaged man who spends most of his time creating a weird crèche in his house o_O

Here's the trailer - I LOVE that they used Robbie Williams' "She's The One", it sounds so WRONG *_*

This has been a very long weekend! 8th December is a rather important holiday here, and I and my brothers finally decorated our Christmas tree! It's time for me to feel a little Christmas spirit- which this year will only be related to lights and trees, since I'm definitely broke :((
Why do I always start writing about things I didn't want to talk about? The important news for today is that these past few days [apart from freezing and going to concerts] I did 2 things I hadn't done for a veeeery long time: translating (frayach 's classic, The Price We Pay For Wings - I'm terribly late but she published a sequel, so hopefully my one-year delay will make some sense after all!) and reading thousands of words that literally flew before me despite my latest inability to read things on my pc.
It must be my new chair's fault: it's so damn uncomfortable and I can't find another one. Which brings me a question: what kind of chair do you sit on when reading fics? Do you have one of those expensive plump black office chairs or just a normal, rigid, four-legged chair? As I was saying, despite my horrid chair I managed to stay glued to the screen while reading these original fics:
maculategiraffe 's The Slave Breakers (NC-17) is what I have missed the most since I stopped reading loads of HP slash: a good old slavery fic which is compelling, sexy, romantic and psychologically interesting at the same time. More importantly, it's well written and makes you fall in love with the characters after like 10 lines. I just couldn't put it down, which almost stopped me from leaving a comment! I ended up writing many along the way, 'cause her Bran was so worth it! ♥ You won't find a *detailed* study of slavery here (if you're looking for that you should read jordangrant 's Cambiare Podentes), but the universe created by this author is really rich. Besides she wrote lots of one-shots to be read by the 3 main novels :D
Dr. Noh's Songs You Know By Heart (NC-17) is a lovely story about a man who comes across a mugger after a party. Unfortunately he isn't carrying money with him, so he offers him a blow-job instead. An incredibly fucked-up but also sweet love story ensues!
I shall also rec a BRILLIANT original work that I started reading two weeks ago, M. Chandler's Shadow of the Templar! It's like those 007 movies I have never wanted to watch - only this comes with amazing dialogue, perfect rhythm and two adorable male characters whose flirting is addictive! I doubt you haven't heard of this one, but if you haven't you should definitely give it a try, even if it doesn't look like a genre you might like. The 3 novels are also available on Lulu at a very modest price ♥

Il libro più brutto che abbia mai letto. Io amo scrivere e apprezzo la letteratura, ma questo libro è una vera palla. E' solo un intreccio complicato e noioso e il linguaggio è tutt'altro che scorrevol. Maledico il giorno in cui sono stato obbligato a leggerlo. Non capisco come sia potuto diventare così famoso nel modo in cui è scritto, quando al mondo ci sono scrittori ben più dotati di Emily Bronte, che non ha fatto altro che scrivere metà della sua vita in un foglio di carta, come Stephen King o Ken Follet. Vorrei che questi avessero più voce in capitolo e non un romanzo del genere che più che un romanzo mi sembra la trama di beautuful. Per i futuri lettori di cime tempestose: NON LEGGETELO!!

Ho letto il libro pensando di trovarmi di fronte ad uno dei classici della letteraura inglese invece è stato deludente. Uno dei più brutti che abbia mai letto. Gli intrecci da telenovela senza alcun tipo di riferimento alla realtà storica e sociale dell'Inghilterra del tempo testimoniano il provincialismo dell'autrice. L'assenza di questi elementi è compensata da un sentimentalismo stucchevole. Non merita la fama che lo circonda.

Since I'm tired of writing in English and this post is for Italian ljers anyway, I'll switch to my language :D
Allora, si tratta dell'elezione di un rappresentante degli utenti di Livejournal. La lista è lunga, ma quello che io e altri membri del fandom vi chiediamo è, indovinate un po', di votare per un rappresentante del fandom. Sappiamo bene che l'universo di lj non è composto solo da noi, ed è proprio per questo che dobbiamo assicurarci che venga eletta una persona qualificata e che conosce le dinamiche del fandom, e soprattutto una persona che sia lì a difendere la nostra libertà di espressioe nel caso di uscite geniali come lo Strikethrough del 2007.
Ci siete?
Allora, i candidati che meglio rappresentano il fandom sono legomymalfoy (mia prima scelta), rm (mia seconda scelta) e vichan (mia terza scelta). Non sono gli/le unici/che, ma potete leggere una breve lista di chi sono i candidati e cosa rappresentano sul lj di bookshop.
Al momento lego è in testa (You Don't Fuck With Fandom :P) ma è inseguita da jameth, che non avevo mai sentito nominare ma che ho capito essere:
-del tutto estraneo al fandom
-convinto che il fandom sia un gruppo di ragazze in preda a crisi premestruale e prive di intelletto
-parte attiva di quella enorme presa per il culo che è l'Encyclopedia Dramatica
-circondato da amici che fann ocampagna per lui aggredendo chiunque voti per qualcun altro
-convinto che decine di patetiche immagini a tutto campo lo faranno vincere.
Evidentemente non sa quanto è potente il fandom.
Prima di votare potete leggere dei post delucidanti come quello di furiosity, quello di gmth e questo interessante post di icarusancalion che citiene aggiornati sulle scelte del fandom in generale.
Potete votare qui. Ricordatevi che vanno indicati tre nomi diversi! Possibilmente legomymalfoy come primo, visto che è in testa :D
